Vibrant blue city view from Mehrengarh Fort
Udaipur to Jodhpur was a 7 hour travel by road which was was quite deserted and lonely at times.
Udaipur in Dushera was a jolly celebration to view the mata ki chauki and the julus of durga and the celebratory band bajaa..The markets are decked up in vibrant hues of the famous Bandej dupattas and fabrics. If you a fan of the block print cotton fabric much like me, you must visit Hathi Pol market and walk around the lanes and by lanes. Every ally has a specialty of its own and flavor of its own.
We spent 3 days in Udaipur and was good time to see all main attractions by Lake Pichola, majestic City palace, a visit to Shilp Gram with the famous puppet show and performances, Sahelion ki baari, Fateh Sagar lake.
We stayed in Raj Nivas by Lake Pichola and they had an awesome view of the lake and the Taj Lake Palace. Not to miss each day, would come back for sunset and lighting and then again would head back to shop :D
Kids were tired of the Hathi pol but I am all game for another trip!
On day 4 we took a car to Jodhpur after visiting Kumbalgarh Fort and enroute our driver took a detour from main road to show us the rural Rajasthan and that trip was never ending.
Kumbalgarh Fort is a majestic fort with stunning views from top. There is a 30min trek up factoring time in view points.
A 4-5 hour journey took us close to 8 hours but was enjoyable as on those deserted rural road we spotted camels straying, people with huge turbans in bikes, ladies in colorful gagras and huge metal trinklets and bangales till elbow.
We checked into Ummed Jodhpur. Mind you it is not The Umaid Bhawan where the richest of rich stays and get married royally..but it was none less. And above all per night charge was for 2500/- per room which was awesome!
Great stay and hospitality. Tasted pseudo Royalty :)
After breakfast we set out to explore Jodhpur. Old worldly city and charming place. As a lone traveler it would have been a pleasure exploring on foot but with 2 kids in tow we did a quick check because of the sweltering heat in Oct.
First we went to Jaswanth Thada - a place beyond imagination and beyond description.
Imagine walking on a castle in a shadow and at a distance the rajasthani music being played in the violine like instrument called ravanhatta ...soul stirring and you are transported to a different timeline in history. Jaswanth thada though is a mausoleum yet was beautiful. The royals when their soul leaves the material world, the passage to has to befit their royal heritage and this place does justice to that belief.
After spending some time looking around and viewing the Mehrengarh's majestic presence we set out to the fort.
Meherengarh fort is a imposing fort with a well maintained museum which is a must visit for anyone. Amazing jarokas and huge cannons and high walls gives it an aura which has to be seen to believe.
Because of flight the next morning we set out back to Udaipur the same day otherwise the moonwashed night view of the fort is a must see. Marked for next time 😊
We returned from Jodhpur to Udaipur by road and saw marble mountains...yeah marble mountain you read it right...glistening in the evening sun glow....Do not sleep during the journey back else you may miss the sight. Have read marbles comes from Rajasthan, this trip we realised and believed it!
As for hospitality and Rajasthani thali for food needless to say...they are world renowned! We tasted yummiest thali with multiple varieties of sabzi and gravy and farsan and sweets wherever we went. Veggie travelers delight!
With that our Royal Rajasthan trip came to a royal pause to return to urban Bangalore life and we returned the next day morning flight.
Jaisalmer is pending in Rajasthan to explore ...we will some day !!😍
